NYC Orthopedics

When a person injures his knee or shoulder, it is highly recommended that he consults a medical practitioner as soon as possible. Any type of knee or shoulder injury is serious, or more often than not, a minor injury can turn extremely severe within a few days, if it is not attended to by an orthopedist. Injuries that require medical attention normally include rotator cuff tears, ACL tears, Meniscal tears, and many others.

Consult an Orthopedic Surgeon Immediately

Whether it is a knee or shoulder injury, a person needs to visit the hospital as soon as possible. While the pain may go away within two or three days, there is no knowing if there is a tear orNYC Orthopedics not without conducting some tests. It is best to determine the severity of the injury before making any decision to obtain home treatment. Moreover, consulting an orthopedist will allow the patient to find out more about the many different types of treatments available.

An Orthopedic Surgeon Will Diagnose Injury

Through various tests and exams, an orthopedic surgeon can determine if the patient has a torn ligament or rotator cuff. Once he determines the severity of the injury, he will provide different types of treatments. A patient with a torn ligament, in most cases needs to go through a number of therapy sessions. If the torn ligament or rotator cuff injury is not serious, several rehabilitation sessions and a few medications will suffice.

On the other hand, if the knee or shoulder sustained a huge tear, the orthopedist would recommend surgical treatment. Without surgical treatment, the tear can turn a lot worse and it might get infected. Surgical treatments are normally followed by rehabilitation and it can take between 6 and 12 months, or even more, for a patient to fully recover.

It is safe to say that people with an injured knee or shoulder should not delay their visit to the hospital. It can be detrimental if they decide to delay their visit and treat the injury themselves.
